This 8-day training builds on the foundations of our Introduction to Therapeutic Groupwork course.

Taking place over 4 months, the course will provide a mix of therapeutic groupwork theory, significant opportunities for supervised group facilitation practise and a reflective space to progress your own journey as a group facilitator/therapist.

Course content will include:

  • Setting up therapeutic groups and group formation
  • Fostering dialogue, contact and connection
  • Inter-personal group process
  • Addressing rank, difference and tackling oppression
  • Dealing effectively with conflict, aggression, apathy and silence
  • Facilitator styles, choices, interventions, boundaries and use of self
  • Stages of group development, including ending well

The course will explore the factors needed for therapeutic groupwork to be emotionally responsive, reflective, stimulating and safe enough to be an effective intra- and inter-personal learning laboratory for group participants.  It will cover a range of group leadership possibllities, across different therapeutic settings and formats, from psycho-educational and brief work in groups to facilitating ongoing process or therapy groups.

The course is suitable for qualified counsellors and therapists and allied professionals who facilitate groups or plan to in the future, who have completed some basic training in therapeutic group work (such as an Introduction to Therapeutic Groupwork with Tim Foskett or an agreed equivalent).  Places are limited - course will have up to 14 participants.
